KRITIKE
is a Filipino
independent, open access, peer-reviewed, and interdisciplinary journal of
philosophy founded by a group of University of Santo Tomas alumni. The journal
seeks to publish articles and book reviews by local and international authors
across the whole range of philosophical topics and schools of thought. The
journal primarily caters to works by academic philosophers and graduate
students, but contributions by undergraduate students are also
welcomed.
Due to the
online character of the journal, we would like to think that it is free from
external constraints. Nevertheless, it should be noted that KRITIKE aspires to hold the
same standards as print journals. The editors construe the internet as a
legitimate medium for the dissemination of scholarly rigorous philosophical
essays. Articles and book reviews published by KRITIKE have all been peer-reviewed and have gone through
standard editorial procedures.

". . . I would
thus propose this general characterization as a rather preliminary definition of
critique: the art of not being governed so much."
- Michel
Foucault, What is Critique?
The word kritike is Greek from the verb
krinein, which means to discern. Hence, kritike means the art of discerning or the art
of critical analysis. Every form of philosophizing (Continental, Analytic,
Western, or Eastern) is, in one way or another, a critique of something.
Hence, being critical seems to be an attitude common to all philosophical
traditions. Indeed, the meaning of philosophy is critique and to be
philosophical is to be critical!
KRITIKE is published bi-annually in June
and December.
